OPL 245: Repeated warnings about the Integrity of Malcolm Brinded

Below are some of the articles we have published about Brinded and his blind eye policy over the years. Was it the same blind eye approach to the corrupt activities in the OPL 245 deal, or were his actions incriminating? Personally, I doubt that he received a cut. Being unscrupulously ambitious is one thing. Being a crook is another.

No one has issued more warnings that we have on this website about the integrity of Malcolm Brinded, often in conjunction with comments by the retired Shell International HSE Group Auditor, Bill Campbell.

Shown right is a self-explanatory “WANTED” poster we have had on permanent display on our websites for years and featured in many articles. Please also read the related 20-page forensic indictment by Bill Campbell published on 6 March 2015 under the title: The Case against Malcolm Brinded CBE. It was about the “Touch Fuck All” Brent Bravo scandal and cover-up stretching back to 1999, which cost the lives of Shell workers.

Brinded departed from Shell in 2013 – see Shell buys Brinded’s silence in golden good riddance. Brinded received a financial settlement package worth £34.3 million as a spectacular birthday present.

ShellNews.net: the ethical malaise at the top of Shell: 26 July 2006

Extract: A number of excellent articles have already been published in relation to this latest debacle revealing details of falsified documents and cover-up, with one Shell executive, Malcolm Brinded, turning his customary blind eye to serious misdeeds.

Shell CEO Letter of Censure to Malcolm Brinded, Executive Director of Shell EP: 1 March 2007

Extract: As will become apparent, his efforts were thwarted by Malcolm Brinded. What we have termed as a blind eye culture by Shell senior management has been memorably described by Campbell as “a hostile environment of extreme denial”.  This attitude resulted in the tragic deaths on Brent Bravo.

Royal Dutch Shell safety scandal: 3 July 2007

Extract: Campbell had carried out a safety audit on the platform in 1999 which revealed a deeply flawed management culture in which safety records were falsified and production allegedly given a higher priority than the safety of Shell employees. Campbell claims he was subsequently removed from his oversight role because he continued to ring alarm bells about an alleged failure to rectify the safety short-cuts his audit had exposed. Because Brinded allegedly turned a blind eye to his warnings, two Shell workers paid with their lives in the subsequent explosion.

Deadly concerns remain over Shell employee safety: 15 October 2007

Extract: Campbell claims he was subsequently removed from his oversight role because he continued to ring alarm bells about a failure to rectify the safety short-cuts his audit had exposed. This included a scandalous “Touch Fuck All” policy tacitly endorsed by a Shell EP executive, Malcolm Brinded, who failed to act. Brinded turned a blind eye to Campbell’s warnings and two Shell workers paid with their lives in a subsequent huge release of gas in 2003. Shell was fined £900,000 by the Scottish authorities for admitted breaches of Health & Safety regulations which resulted in the avoidable deaths.

Other warnings about Malcolm Brinded

Former Shell Group Auditor Bill Campbell throws down gauntlet to Shell Chairman, Jorma Ollila: 2 July 2007

Extract: Mr. Ollila, I recently wrote to you in February this year asking you to investigate the behaviour of your CEO J. van der Veer and the Executive Director of Shell EP M. Brinded for their actions in subverting their internal investigation report into the follow up of the Brent Bravo audit by taking no account of its findings in the public statements and statements made to your employees in June last year, and in March this year.

The headline of an article I published in May 2009 says it all: Royal Dutch Shell Fat Cat Malcolm Brinded: Big Brain but no scruples. I first reached that conclusion nearly 20 years ago when he supported the Shell executive mastermind behind a corrupt tender process for a Shell contract

We also warned him about Shell’s association with former MI6 agents at Hakluyt & Company.

How he (and Shell) must now regret ignoring all of our warnings.
