MOSOP Push Global Support for Self Determination for the Ogoni People

Delegates to the UNPO Presidents meeting in Washington DC

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, has called for global support for the people of Ogoni in Nigeria to achieve Self Determination and protection from discrimination.

Speaking at the just-concluded meeting of presidents of the UNPO in Washington DC, United States of America, president of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke said the repression and discrimination against the Ogoni people in Nigeria was unacceptable.

Nsuke said it was unfortunate that a simple demand for justice was being repressed by the Nigerian authorities leading to the death of over 4000 persons and continues to endanger the lives of over one million Ogoni people.

The MOSOP president said it was regrettable that some 25years after Ken Saro-Wiwa was murdered, the situation of the Ogoni people have not changed urging global support for the Ogoni people to recover from the shocking impact global oil giant, Shell Petroleum and the Nigerian government have had on the Ogoni people.

Nsuke faulted the way HYPREP was going about the implementation of the UNEP report on Ogoni emphasizing the need to compensate the people for livelihood losses due to massive oil spills and to implement the emergency measures including water provision, health audit, medical facility upgrades amongst others.

The MOSOP president had been in Washington DC to attend the general meeting of the UNPO presidents which held from March 6 to March 8, 2020.

DISCLAIMERS

1. There are two competing organisations, both calling themselves MOSOP.  MOSOP in Nigeria led by Fegalo Nsuke is indisputably active, while the MOSOP led by Legborsi Saro Pyagbara (Wikipedia article) has an online presence, but otherwise appears to be dormant?
