I am among the 465,000 Post Office home phone and broadband users who have been collectively sold to Shell Energy, and are to become the firm’s customers.
As a climate activist, I most definitely do not want to become a customer of Shell Energy, something that I did not, and would never have, agreed to.
The Post Office has told me I will have to pay an £88 penalty if I wish to cancel my contract and leave.read more
Shell to link executive pay more closely to group’s climate performance
LONDON (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell has proposed linking its directors’ pay more closely to the group’s climate performance and severing the link between bonuses and liquefied natural gas (LNG) production volumes, it said on Monday.
The weighting of Shell’s energy transition performance on its targeted path to net zero emissions by 2050 would double to 20% of the directors’ long-term incentive plan calculation if shareholders vote for the plan at a meeting on May 18.read more
Shell Plans To Double Down On Strengths As A Retailer In New Net-Zero World
Scott CarpenterSenior Contributor: Green Tech: Mar 29, 2021
I cover the energy industry, focusing on climate and green tech
Anglo-Dutch oil giant Royal Dutch Shell’s plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050, unveiled last month, focuses heavily on selling low-carbon electricity, biofuels and hydrogen directly to households and electric vehicle owners.
The strategy marks a contrast with that of other European oil majors, who in their own plans to reach net-zero emissions have vowed to accumulate vast amounts of renewable power generation capacity in the form of wind and solar assets.read more

Extracts from a current Shell Energy customer review posted on Trustpilot: “Don’t use this company – Shell Energy Broadband. Their customer service is appalling. If you have any problems or issues they won’t help you. As soon as you’ve signed their contract, that’s it, they are not interested. They got my order wrong and I ended up with the lowest broadband speed and not the ‘plus’ service. The standard broadband is awful”

Shell Energy Broadband Scraps Controversial Switching Exit Fee
Saturday, March 27th, 2021
Energy provider and UK ISP Shell Energy has announced that they will scrap the £15 “cease fee” that was being charged to home broadband customers who wanted to switch away to a different provider, including those who were now outside their minimum contract term.
Technically speaking Shell, or any ISP for that matter, can charge a post-contract cease fee and the one mentioned above does in fact appear in their T&C’s. In shells’ case it’s apparently a hang over from when they gobbled First Utility’s broadband base some years back, and sometimes wholesale providers can also charge ISPs such a fee too (i.e. the provider is allowed to recover these from consumers).read more

No evidence of NAM criminal intent in Groningen gas scandal, public prosecutor says
MARCH 26, 2021
The public prosecution department said on Friday it had not found evidence that the lives of people living in parts of Groningen hit by subsidence-related earthquakes were actually at risk.
And despite an ‘intensive investigation’ there is no evidence that NAM, the company charged with extracting natural gas from under the province, had acted in a ‘deliberately criminal way’, the department said in a statement.read more
LONDON (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell and Italy’s Eni are seeking to sell their oil and gas operations in Tunisia, industry sources said, as the North African country struggles to attract new investments following years of political instability.
Shell has hired investment bank Rothschild & Co. to sell its Tunisian assets, which include two offshore gas fields and an onshore production facility the Anglo-Dutch company acquired as part of its 2016 $53 billion takeover of BG Group, the sources told Reuters.read more

Shell hunts for hydrogen opportunities in Australia in net zero push
Sonali Paul: Thu, 25 March 2021, 8:50 am
MELBOURNE (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell is scouring Australia for opportunities to develop its hydrogen business, so far focused on projects in Europe, in its drive to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Shell Australia Chair Tony Nunan said the company sees hydrogen and carbon capture and storage as essential to the company’s net zero ambitions, and Australia is well placed to be competitive in both of those technologies.
Australia, like its biggest coal and gas customers China, Japan and South Korea, has mapped out a hydrogen strategy, with plans to become an exporter by 2030, using its vast wind and solar resources to produce “green” hydrogen and natural gas and carbon capture for “blue” hydrogen.read more
