Scientists protest at museum’s Shell link

Two researchers have shunned the Science Museum over its links to the fossil fuel industry and will donate their work to a rival institution instead.

Steve and Deonie Allen, who are pioneers of charting and detecting microplastics in the environment, hope to hand over material from their expeditions to the Natural History Museum.

After the Allens found out about a gagging clause in the Science Museum’s agreement with Shell to sponsor a climate change exhibition, preventing it from “damaging the goodwill or reputation” of the oil giant, they decided to withdraw their involvement.
