The massive oil company has announced that it will be offloading its 19.75 percent stake in Russian state-owned oil company Rosneft.
BP Chairman Helge Lund said: “Russia’s attack on Ukraine is an act of aggression which is having tragic consequences across the region.”
It has led the bp board to conclude, after a thorough process, that our involvement with Rosneft, a state-owned enterprise, simply cannot continue.
Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said he had left BP’s boss with “no doubt about the seriousness of government concerns about BP’s overexposure to Russian interests” after a meeting on Friday, according to an official.read more

BP is to offload its 19.75% stake in Russian state-owned oil firm Rosneft after Russia’s “act of aggression in Ukraine”.
The oil giant had come under pressure from the UK government to make the move since Thursday’s invasion.
It has held the shareholding in the Russian company since 2013.

Shell may have to write off up to $1 billion that it has invested in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine increased the likelihood that it may never be allowed to start up, analysts have warned.
The oil major has bankrolled 10 per cent of the cost of constructing the 750-mile pipeline under the Baltic Sea, which is designed to double the flow of gas from Russia directly to Germany.
The project, owned by Gazprom, the Russian state gas giant, has long been opposed by America on security grounds. Construction was completed in September, but it has not gained approval from Germany to start up.read more

Shell Faces U.K. Showdown Over Impact of ‘Cataclysmic’ Oil Spill
Communities claim impact of spill not felt until years later
Shell said it’s implausible, damage is from other pollutants
By Katharine Gemmell: 26 February 2022, 08:32 GMT
A group of Nigerians want a trial against Royal Dutch Shell Plc in the U.K. for what they allege was a “cataclysmic” oil spill that wreaked havoc on their communities years later.
The pollution was caused by oil from the so-called Bonga Spill in 2011 but was only felt following flooding and storms three to four years after the initial mishap, say lawyers for Harrison Jalla and Abel Chujor, the two lead claimants in the lawsuit.read more

More Prelude power issues “foreseeable and credible”
FULL details of an investigation into the December fire, shutdown and subsequent evacuation of Shell’s Prelude FLNG vessel show that it is likely another power outage could occur, meaning it must remain offline for the foreseeable future.
23 Feb 2022
During an early February earnings call Shell boss Ben van Beurden called the ongoing problems “teething troubles” but confirmed the $20 billion-plus vessel would be offline through the first quarter of 2022.
The company was ordered by the offshore regulator, NOPSEMA, to shut down the facility in December, following a small fire caused by an electrical fault which tripped the facility’s main power, forcing the company to use backup diesel generators and evacuate staff.read more

Shell boss blames hedge funds and speculators for sending gas prices to record highs and adding to volatility that has seen dozens of energy firms collapse
Shell said huge sums moving in and out of the market were causing volatility
Despite this, insisted prices were still largely influenced by supply and demand
The price of gas is currently 173 pence per therm, up from 49 in January 2021
Hedge funds and financial speculators piling into the European gas market have contributed to high and volatile prices over the past year, according to Shell.
The energy giant said the movement of large amounts of money in and out of the market meant prices were less linked to actual supply and demand.read more
