My internet connection was absolutely appalling, it kept disconnecting from the internet to the point that after *many* phonecalls to Shell they sent out an engineer. The best he could do was to make a second frequency available to connect to and that kept dropping off too! Do *not* go with shell if you want a good internet connection!

My broadband account with the P.O was changed over Shell energy, the contract expired end of July 2022. I could not understand their charges to renew my contract so switched to BT, maybe not the cheapest provider but great service.
I returned the router ( supplied f.o.c by the P.O. )and received confirmation that I had sent them proof of postage. over 3 months later I am still receiving threatening e-mails demanding £35.00 for the router. I have spent hours on the phone and sending e-mails to try and resolve this matter but I am not going to waste any more time trying to reason with this useless bunch of morons, and will try to resolve this matter through the ombudsman. read more

Broadband reliability is nonexistent. lose the signal about 50 times a day. will phone these arseholes tomorrow and cancel my dealings with them. I am sure they won’t miss me but I am sure there are probably thousands of people who think like me.

This bunch of incompetent, inept idiots took over my fathers broadband from the Post Office. Due to illness in July I cancelled his contract and was told that 13 days of his monthly fee would be reimbursed STILL NOT RECEIVED. A month later they reopened his account and took £40, raised the issue with them, guess what STILL NO REFUND. On 4 occasions I have requested a returns label to send their router back, guess what NO RETURNS LABEL SENT. They have now charged £35 for the router, which I couldn’t return as they do not have the capacity to do something as simple as send out a returns label. Look for a bunch of incompetent cowboys to provide your broad back, they’ll still be better than Shell. read more

Nigerian widows end their case in the Netherlands against Shell

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A group of four widows who had sought to hold Shell liable for damages in the Netherlands after their anti-oil activist husbands were executed by the Nigerian government in 1995 have cancelled further legal proceedings, their lawyer said on Monday.

“Obviously this is not without disappointment and frustration,” said lawyer Channa Samkalden in statement announcing that the widows have cancelled an appeal launched after the Hague District Court rejected their case earlier this year. read more

Shell chief to receive compensation for loss of office

THE HERALD

Shell chief to receive compensation for loss of office

28 Oct 2022

THE outgoing chief executive of oil and gas giant Shell is to receive a year’s salary by way of compensation for loss of office.

Ben van Beurden will receive £1.42 million when he steps down at the end of this year, which is to be paid in six instalments. Shell said outstanding payments will be reduced by 50 per cent if he secures a paid position, excluding non-executive directorships, in that time.

The company also said that Mr van Beurden will continue to receive his base salary until the end June next year. The London-listed Anglo-Dutch energy giant said that a pro-rated annual bonus in relation to performance year 2023 will be determined by Shell’s remuneration committee after June next year.

It said 50% of any bonus awarded will be delivered in shares which are subject to a three-year holding period that remains in force after Mr van Beurden leaves Shell’s service.

Shell said the 2021 and 2022 long term incentive awards will be reduced to reflect the portion of the performance period that has elapsed to June next year. read more

Shell should have quit Groningen gas project in Netherlands earlier -CEO

Shell should have quit Groningen gas project in Netherlands earlier -CEO

AMSTERDAM, Oct 13 (Reuters) – Shell CEO Ben van Beurden told a Dutch parliamentary panel investigating problems relating to natural gas production at the large Groningen gas field in the Netherlands that the company should have pulled out of the project earlier.

Production at Groningen was scaled back sharply over a period of years in the 2010s after the Dutch government and producer NAM, a Shell-Exxon joint venture, realized the earthquakes it caused posed too great a threat to life and property.

“We had to continually ask what makes sense,” as production was dialled back to levels at which NAM made little to no profit, Van Beurden told lawmakers.

“What made sense for Shell was to quit. In any other country we would have stopped this operation. But in the Netherlands that was impossible because the Netherlands was dependent on Groningen gas.”

A damning report in 2015 from the independent Dutch Safety Board had accused the government and the field’s operators of ignoring the threat of earthquakes linked to the field for years. As vast amounts of gas were removed from under the province since 1963, the ground sank and settled above empty pockets, triggering quakes. read more

Shell accused of ‘greenwashing its harmful activities’ following partnership with British Cycling

Updated 9:39 AM EDT, Tue October 11, 2022

CNN —

British Cycling is facing criticism from environmental campaign groups after signing a long-term partnership deal with Shell.

The partnership, which was announced on Monday and runs until the end of 2030, will help by “accelerating British Cycling’s path to net zero,” according to a press release from the governing body.

But environmental groups have condemned the move as an attempt by Shell to “greenwash its harmful activities.” read more

British Spies, British Lies (James Hall vs Walied Shater)

British Spies, British Lies (James Hall vs Walied Shater)

I have never before seen a court document containing so many allegations of repeated lies by a top-level Shell official, supported by copious similar fact evidence of his alleged deceit.

By John Donovan

I reported in August 1917 that Mr Crockett Oaks III, Shell security manager for the Americas, received a ‘big bucks’ court case settlement from Shell.

The litigation arose from an alleged pattern of discrimination in favour of ‘White Brits’ by Shell and Shell Corporate Security VP James WD Hall, a British national.

Mr Hall is a security professional who worked in an undisclosed position purportedly in the British Foreign Office (MI6?) before his long career at Shell.

Mr Hall has faced a succession of accusers on the same race/national origin grounds starting with Crockett Oaks III.

The second case was brought by Mr Mike Oliveri, another gentleman with a military/security affairs background. Mr Oliveri is a decorated war veteran – a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Mr Hall’s current accuser is Mr Walied Shater a former US Secret Service agent.  read more

The energy crisis in Europe and the buried treasure of the Netherlands of 1000 billion

By Hans von der Brelie

Despite skyrocketing energy prices and a shortage of natural gas supplies in the European Union, the Dutch government has taken the decision to go ahead with shutting down the natural gas wells in the Groningen region. The field is one of the largest in the world, with a value of up to 1,000 billion euros. But for now, it is a treasure that will remain untapped for the foreseeable future. read more

Shell restarts Australian Prelude LNG loadings

Published date: 19 September 2022

Shell has resumed LNG loadings at its 3.6mn t/yr Prelude floating LNG (FLNG) facility in the Browse basin offshore Western Australia following a shutdown of more than six weeks because of industrial action.

The resumption comes more than three weeks since the strike, which began on 10 June, stopped on 25 August.

The shipments follow the cancellation of protected industrial action after an in-principle enterprise agreement was reached with the Australian Workers’ Union and Electrical Trades Union in relation to the Prelude facility on 23 August, Shell said on 19 September. read more

Governments urged to act after oil giants accused of misleading public

Documents suggest Shell and BP staff privately downplayed public commitments on climate crisis

Alex Lawson Energy correspondent: Fri 16 Sep 2022 16.42 BST

Campaigners have urged governments to intervene after oil companies were accused of misleading the public about their commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Oil and gas companies including Britain’s Shell and BP were urged to “stop their deception” this week as the US House committee on oversight and reform released documents showing that oil industry executives privately downplayed their public messages on efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

The memo claimed that internal BP documents highlighted how carbon capture and storage (CCS) – a nascent technology that involves inserting CO2 emissions into underground rock formations – could “enable the full use of fossil fuels across the energy transition and beyond”.

Congressional investigators also unearthed an internal Shell email discussing carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) in which an executive said: “We want to be careful to not talk about CCUS as prolonging the life of oil, gas or fossil fuels writ large.” read more

Fury as ‘explosive’ files reveal largest oil companies contradicted public statements and wished bedbugs upon critical activists

Oliver Milman: Sat 17 Sep 2022 11.00 BST

Criticism in the US of the oil industry’s obfuscation over the climate crisis is intensifying after internal documents showed companies attempted to distance themselves from agreed climate goals, admitted “gaslighting” the public over purported efforts to go green, and even wished critical activists be infested by bedbugs.

The communications were unveiled as part of a congressional hearing held in Washington DC, where an investigation into the role of fossil fuels in driving the climate crisis produced documents obtained from the oil giants ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell and BP.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they wish bedbugs on you, then you win,” said Varshini Prakash, executive director of Sunrise. The organization accused Shell of a “legacy of violence and of ignoring the wellbeing of communities across the globe”. read more

Big Oil Companies Are Greenwashing, Congress Committee Says

Big Oil Companies Are Greenwashing, Congress Committee Says

A House congressional committee said internal documents from Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., Shell Plc, and BP Plc reveal that their public promises to fight climate change amount to greenwashing.

A cache of emails, lobbying and preparation materials for senior executives obtained by the Committee on Oversight and Reform show that Big Oil climate pledges rely on “unproven technology, accounting gimmicks, and misleading language to hide the reality,” Subcommittee Chair Ro Khanna said in an emailed statement. read more

Dutch state earned €363.7 billion through Groningen gas extraction

Dutch state earned €363.7 billion through Groningen gas extraction

TUESDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2022 – 08:44

After almost 60 years of gas extraction in Groningen, the involved parties finally announced how much money they made from it. Adjusted for inflation, the Groningen gas field yielded a total profit of 428 billion euros, of which the Dutch state received 363.7 billion euros, Het Financieele Dagblad reports based on calculations from shareholder Shell.

The remaining 64.7 billion euros in profit went to the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM), the operator of the Groningen gas field. NAM paid the amount out as dividends to its shareholders – Shell and ExxonMobil.

Shell released the figures for the ongoing parliamentary inquiry into gas extraction in Groningen. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate confirmed the profit division to FD.

The figures show that the government received 85 percent of the profit from the Groningen field – quite a bit higher than the about 70% income paid for other concessions. Aad Correlje, associate professor and energy expert at the Delft University of Technology, called that remarkable. “We knew that the government took a large part of the profit, but not that the difference with the gas companies’ profit was that big,” he said to the newspaper. read more
